This is a very large county stretching 86 miles from end to end. We have a bungalow in the south eastern area.

It is only a few miles to the best beaches in Whitsand bay. Freathy is down a steep cliff, but Seaton, Looe and Downderry are on the flat.

The town of Plymouth is nearby, is famous for Plymouth Hoe. This sea front is where Sir Francis Drake awaited the Spanish Armada by playing bowls. His former home at Buckland Abbey is also nearby; here his famous drum awaits his return. In August a firework competition is held in the sound. Six competing firms show off their best displays. The natural amphitheatre is a glorious place to view these displays.

Dartmoor and Bodmin moor are equidistant and well worth a walk or two. The ten tors is a gruelling test of stamina and leadership for the young, and is held in May every year. You have to have trained with the Army before permission to take part is granted.

The rivers Tamar, Lyhner, Looe, Seaton, Tiddy are all nearby. Most have boating, sailing and canoeing and water sports for all. There are many pubs with beer gardens overlooking these rivers. The old railway line the Great Western is a fine sight as it crosses Isombard Kingdom Brunel’s bridge the Royal Albert at Saltash and beside the newer Tamar Bridge.

To our north is Kit Hill and Caradon Hill is only 9 miles away from that. This is now part of the “Hard Rock” heritage site that is most of Cornwall. Here you can see mine workings and old engine houses. From the tops of those two hills you can see much of Dartmoor and the whole of Cornwall from on top of Caradon. On your way to Cothele house you pass through Gunislake where the road circumnavigates Kit hill giving the finest view of the Tamar valley and out towards Plymouth sound. At Morwellham you can immerse yourself in the 1800’s.

Travel to Bodmin and enjoy Lanhydrock house a National treasure preserved by the National Trust. In Bodmin is the old Gaol which is very spooky due to the hangings of the last century. Travel to Caradon hill you will find the intrigue of ancient history such as King Doniert’s stone, the Hurlers and Minions quarry.

Looe is the best kept fishing village in the whole of South East Cornwall. Enjoy a cream tea and stroll around the many shops and art galleries. Drive from here to Rame head for the finest views anywhere in the country. The famous Eddystone Lighthouse can be seen 16 miles out to sea. From the Mount

We have a two bed roomed bungalow, built part in wood and part block, on a country park site. There is a swimming pool and children’s playground on site. The pool is open from May to September. There are some beautiful woodland walks along the banks of the Lynher ( a tributary of the Tamar valley).

The site is a well known wildlife sanctuary with special awards from David Bellamy.
